The Power of the Howl

Wolves howl to express themselves, bond and otherwise connect to the energy of Mother Gaia and the cycles of the Moon. Domestic Dogs do the same, they express through their language of barks, snorts, yips, growls and howls, all meaning different things depending on their tone and the situation.

Dogs don't keep things locked up emotionally, they don't hold on to anger, or spend hours contemplating what is going on and how to handle things, they just express. They get excited, they act out. They get upset, they let you know, and they get over it. When they are happy, you don't have to guess because they show it.

It's so important to express, to be in touch with our feelings and to find healthy ways to communicate with one another. Rather than hold on to frustrations, or angst, finding healthy ways to release these  emotions deserves to be a goal for each and every one of us. When we don't let go, we hold on energetically to all sorts of things that do not serve us. By stuffing down our emotions we run the risk of having things explode at completely inopportune times, which only adds to our burden.

When I get overwhelmed, frustrated, angry or sad, I howl. I join my beloved dogs  in raising my voice and sending those feelings out and away, releasing and healing by the movement of energy that howling provides.  Celebrating life can also be expressed through howling, and I highly recommend the experience as it appeals to the wilder side of our nature.

If we all howled loud and long every once in a while, we may find life a little lighter and our spirit just a little more free. I invite us all to be the wolf that howls at the moon and roams free through the wilderness.

Peace, love and wufs,

Rev Deb, Chooks & Sam
